Concert in Dar al-Assad on 18 March 2010


The 4th workshop of AACAM with the High Institute of Music, Damascus was again focused on contemporary music, its instrumentation, performance and sources within classical music. Thanks to Gottfried von Einem Stiftung and to Boosey & Hawks two pieces of Gottfried von Einem, namly Ludi Leopoldini (op.55) and Wandlungen (op. 21) could be rehearsed and performed. Under the conduct of Maestro Ewald Donhoffer and Missak Baghbadourian the students of the High Institute of Music also studied and performed pieces by Syrian contemporary composers Zaid Jabri, namly Musika Kameralnya and Hassan Taha, Makamphony as well as Brahms (op.73, first movement of 2nd symphony). This years workshop was also supported by Gerald  Resch, Austrian composer and musicologist who gave theoretical introduction and analysed the pieces with the students.

The concert took place on 18 March in the Damascene Opera House, Dar al-Assad. Around 700 guests enjoyed the concert.
